Hello, it’s a great day to start a project.
Farmhouse Kitchens
Designed by Laurie Bonin-Gohier, senior kitchen designer at Ateliers Jacob, this kitchen adopts a laboratory layout, a double-linear configuration that maximizes efficiency while promoting conviviality. The zones are clearly defined, yet the flow remains fluid and natural. The activity triangle works perfectly, thanks to the optimized space between the sink, refrigerator, and stove. This layout enables a smooth dance between preparation, cooking, and cleanup, all while minimizing physical effort. Every aspect was carefully planned to integrate harmoniously into the daily life of this small family.
At the heart of the room, the first island stands out with its distinctive finish. Its oak side panels, marked by vertical saw cuts, reveal the wood’s natural texture while echoing the clean lines of the overall space. The cabinets are from the Ateliers Jacob’s Bois collection, made of white oak with a matte natural finish, reinforcing the kitchen’s warm yet upscale character.
The natural stone countertop blends perfectly with a double sink with an open apron, also known as a farmhouse sink, which adds a touch of utilitarian charm. Sleek chrome faucets complete the look. Overhead, two brushed brass pendant lights emphasize the height of the ceiling while infusing the space with warmth. Finally, brass handles, used throughout, unify the different materials and subtly adorn the furniture. This island serves as the kitchen’s backbone: a multifunctional area for preparation, gathering, and circulation.
On the opposite side, the second island extends the experience, this time toward the dining room. It seamlessly transforms into a dining area thanks to its sleek black stools. Its generous worktop is perfect for serving appetizers. White cabinets from Ateliers Jacob’s Velvet polymer collection, feature a matte finish that lends a subtle elegance and contemporary appeal.
Set back, the main wall showcases clad with natural oak cabinets from Ateliers Jacob’s Bois collection, an embodiment of local expertise and high-end craftsmanship. These cabinets, which extend to the ceiling, discreetly house a refrigerator and ample storage space. Chic brass handles combine elegance and practicality. The wood-toned wall acts as a backdrop that anchors the entire kitchen. It creates an interesting contrast with the custom-made white hood, whose sculptural simplicity floats above a lightly veined stone backsplash, extending the soft tone of the countertop, enhancing the room’s overall harmony.
Tucked into a sunlit alcove, the coffee corner offers a moment of calm amid the everyday bustle. A wide work surface accommodates coffee machines, large cupboards for equipment, and an open wood shelf for cups and books, creating a functional, comforting nook that elevates the morning ritual.
This built-in storage unit features fluted glass doors, adding a contemporary, textured touch to the overall look that subtly plays with light. The vertical lines of the flutingechoes the horizontal wood grain, visually unifying the kitchen’s elements. The China cabinet serves as a seamless transition between the kitchen and dining areas.
The arches that mark the path through the various sections of the residence exude a contemporary atmosphere inspired by the Mediterranean. They gently frame the kitchen, breaking up the linearity and adding a sense of intimacy to the open-concept layout. This fluid architectural choice encourages intuitive movement and reinforces the kitchen’s welcoming atmosphere.
Every element of this kitchen, designed by Laurie Bonin-Gohier, balances beauty with durability. By combining polymerr cabinetry from the Velvet collection with solid wood elements from the Bois collection, a unique creation by Ateliers Jacob, this room reflects the modern elegance of Quebec craftsmanship. Natural elements, soft tones, gentle curves, and custom designs create a timeless space. One that exudes serenity, attention to details, and a commitment to well-being.
